Supercarga de 845 toneladas avança na Rodovia dos Tamoios

On Saturday (19), a massive 138‑meter, 845‑ton supercarga carrying a power transformer continued its movement along the Rodovia dos Tamoios, entering a new night‑time transport phase. The load is headed to the port of São Sebastião and authorities have warned drivers to exercise heightened attention.

The supercarga, part of a regional energy‑infrastructure project, is one of the longest and heaviest loads ever moved on the Litoral Norte corridor. Such transports require prior authorization from the Departamento de Estradas de Rodagem (DER) and coordination with municipal traffic agencies to ensure safety on the two‑lane highway that links São José dos Campos to the coastal municipalities. Previous stages of the operation, carried out during daylight, have already covered the inland segment of the route, positioning the load near the coastal stretch that borders the municipalities of São Sebastião and Caraguatatuba.

For the night segment, the police traffic unit has deployed signal teams at critical points of the Rodovia dos Tamoios and issued circulars urging motorists to reduce speed, avoid overtaking the convoy, and follow the escort vehicles. Temporary lane restrictions may be implemented where the load’s width exceeds the standard lane, and drivers are instructed to stay alert to possible sudden maneuvers of the escort trucks. The transport is expected to reach the port of São Sebastião by the early hours of Sunday, where the transformer will be unloaded for integration into the local power grid.

The continuation of the supercarga underscores the logistical challenges of moving oversized equipment through the coastal highway network. Monitoring will remain active throughout the night, and traffic authorities will update the public on any additional measures required to maintain flow and safety on the Rodovia dos Tamoios.
